Community Dental: Community Dental is an agency committed to providing accessible dental care services, education, and health promotion to people in Maine. Dedicated, professional, and caring staff strive to deliver high quality services to everyone. Community Dental believes that these efforts are key in promoting and maintaining long-term improvements in health and well being for each individual it serves. All insurances are accepted, including MaineCare. Accepting new patients. There is a limited waiting list for new patients; individuals who are not patients but who have an emergency can be seen usually within 48 hours. Hours: 2 Mondays a month 8-4:45 p.m. and Tuesday-Thursday 8-5 p.m. Maine Donated Dental: The program serves disabled and elderly people who cannot afford needed treatment and have no other way of getting help. Each person's condition must be severe enough to prohibit or significantly limit gainful employment, and they must need extensive treatment rather than a cleaning or a check-up. In addition, they can neither afford dental care nor get it through other programs. Each patient receives services through this program only once. Children's Dental Center: The Children’s Dental Clinic provides total pediatric dental care, including all forms of restorative treatment, sealants, and preventive dental education for low-income children. Children under care return for continuing oral hygiene instruction and frequent fluoride applications. Surgical procedures, endodontics, space maintainers, minor orthodontics and laboratory work are done in the office. Services are provided for children under the age of 21. Senior-Dent: A Maine Dental Association program that offers comprehensive dental care to low-income elderly persons at reduced fees. Maine citizens who are age 62 or older, have no dental benefits under a private insurance plan or the MaineCare program, are eligible to enroll. Persons who qualify will receive a minimum discount of 15% from the usual and customary fees of participating dentists on all dental services. Maine Area Agencies on Aging can provide further information about Senior-Dent and can determine if an individual is eligible to receive dental care at reduced fees. Hours: Monday-Friday 8-4 p.m. Cole Family Foundation Orthodontic Project: This project, a partnership between the private Cole Family Foundation and the Maine Dental Association (MDA), is designed to help provide orthodontia (braces) for 25 to 30 Maine children a year, in cases where no other funds are available. Children from low-income families who do not qualify for any government program (such as MaineCare) may be eligible. The Foundation will reimburse up to 70% of the orthodontist's usual fee, which the provider is required to accept as total payment, so there will be no cost to the child's family. Cases are referred from dentists and selected approval by a panel of Maine Dental Association members; financial eligibility is determined by the Foundation. Referrals to this program must come from a dentist (self-referrals from patients will not be considered). Dentists should contact the MDA and request the information packet for the Cole Family Foundation Orthodontic Project.
