Services:  Nestled securely in the western mountains of Maine is a place that has earned more Olympic medals for skiing and snowboarding than some small countries. It has graduated students into the most prestigious colleges and universities and prepared them to be responsible, caring citizens who know the value of hard work and commitment. This place is Carrabassett Valley Academy.

Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is the offshoot of the Sugarloaf Regional Ski Educational Foundation (SRSEF), which began operations in 1969 as a tutorial program to help racers and freestyle skiers sharpen their skills for competitive skiing. While the tutorial program was successful, the members soon became interested in establishing a ski academy at Sugarloaf. In 1983 CVA opened its doors as a full-time ski academy for 8th -12th graders to provide the balance of excellence in athletic training with a focus on skiing or snowboarding, college preparatory academics, and responsible living.

CVA is known for developing young people with the drive to reach their full potential in competitive alpine racing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding and non-competitive skiing and snowboarding (ALPS). We are a leader in delivering programs that enable students to obtain a traditional college preparatory academic education while pursuing their athletic aspirations. The goal is for students to create their strongest high school resume, so when they graduate, they have the most post-secondary academic and athletic choices. We have excellent college placement with most students being accepted to their first choice.

Colleges love CVA students because:
• They have great time management skills
• They have the ability to solve problems and think critically
• They are strong advocates for their own learning and are not afraid to ask for help

Since 1983, CVA has seen many exciting changes and reached a number of goals and milestones including being the first academy to offer snowboard, ALPS and freeride programs.

CVA has trained the minds and bodies of 11 Olympians, 10 X-Games competitors, 6 world champions, 83 national champions, 21 NCAA and USCSA All-Americans, and 34 National Team Members. Sugarloaf is our home mountain offering varied/challenging terrain. The combination of the mountain and our Anti-gravity complex provides CVA athletes with world class training.

When a student joins CVA, they join a community; a community where they are known, needed, cared for, and have the opportunity to shape their school. The first assistant headmaster had two golden retrievers he called the Big Dogs….and it stuck. We are the Big Dogs and our values are:
B Be there
I Initiate
G Give respect

D Dedicate
O Open your mind
G Go for it!

CVA is a place where students of varied backgrounds, cultures, and academic and athletic levels bring their dreams and leave confidently prepared to face the challenges of our world.
