Bread of Life Shelter

Bread of Life Ministries has two shelters serving the Capital region. Our family and individual shelter is a  26 bed facility, while our Veterans Shelter has bed space for 12 men. Both of the shelters are staffed at all hours, providing a safe and structured environment for the residents.

At Bread of Life we are not just a shelter from the elements, but a home where people feel safe and welcomed upon arrival. They receive a brand new bed-in-a-bag and a new pillow that they will take with them when they leave. Bread of Life Ministries Shelter provides a structured program where people work with an onsite case manager throughout the week toward goals such as permanent housing, education and employment, all while addressing the underlying reasons for their homelessness. Case Managers work with people to become self-sufficient by connecting them with resources and support networks that provide new opportunities for success.

Bread of Life Ministries is blessed 83 apartment units in nine buildings throughout the Augusta area. We are proud to offer a variety of units ranging from boarding room style living quarters to efficiencies to two- and three-bedrooms. We offer several transitional housing units which provide a subsidized rent for a maximum of two years.  We also have permanent housing, which provides tenants the ability to remain in the unit without time restraints.

It is our goal to provide those in need with safe, affordable housing and to provide support for tenants to become the best versions of themselves.

If you are interested in housing, please fill out our housing application and return to our Housing Coordinator at or drop off at our 159 Water Street Office in Augusta. Please note that all housing applications must be complete and accompanied by an APD Background check (see below) in order to be reviewed.

You’ll also need to fill out an Augusta Police Department Background Check authorization. The form can be printed here and brought into The Augusta Police Department to be completed by the Dispatcher on duty.

Bread of Life Ministries serves between 40-120 lunch meals per day or about 32,000 -36,000 meals per year. The Soup kitchen is a pillar of Bread of Life Ministries and a beacon of hope to those in need. All are welcome to a place where people are served a nutritious meal by compassionate volunteers in a safe environment.

read of Life Ministries provides free case management services to all clients who enter the shelter programs. Our goal is to end homelessness one person and one family at a time through case management services and our shelter-based Structures Program.

Case management staff work with clients to develop specific goals around obtaining housing, employment and other resources to help them become self-sufficient.  Connecting effectively with government and non-profit resources and various other support systems results in new opportunities for success.

Case Managers also work with clients to address the root causes of their homelessness, such as addiction or disability, in an effort to help the client end their struggle with homelessness.

Bread of Life Ministries also provides clients within its permanent housing the opportunity to work with case management in order to support them in their continued success.
