| Services: | Some fifteen years ago, New Portland's first public library opened in an old school house in the North Village. Over time the building proved no longer suitable and, thanks to many grants, we have built a new library in the East Village, close by the Town Office and Fire Station. The new library has more space, a special children's corner, a board-room and computers (with high-speed internet access) available to the public. We have books (including large print, hardcover and paperbacks), magazines, audiobooks, movies, music, and more! |
| Hours: | FOR THE SUMMER, We strive to be OPEN: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays: 4:00pm to 6:00pm & Saturday: 10:00am to 12:00pm

| Services: | The library's collection is varied with an emphasis on books about Maine or by Maine authors. There are many mystery titles. The library has a large selection of children's and young adult books, fiction and non-fiction. There are five computers for public use with high speed Internet access. One computer will be serving as a public access card catalog and 1 as circulation desk computer. We now have more than 8,400 books cataloged using our new computer system.
The library is small, informal, and friendly and the community is encouraged to use it. There are several ongoing programs: a summer reading program for children; and a story hour for children every second and fourth Thursday morning beginning at 10:30 A.M. |

| Services: | The mission of the Library is to function as a popular materials library, a pre-schooler's door to learning, an education support center, a community information center and a community activities center. Presently the collection of print and non-print materials consists of approximately 21,000 items and an interlibrary loan system provides access to another 3 million listings in other Maine libraries. Free access to the Internet through the Library's ten computers provides infinite sources of information for patrons. Wireless service became available to patrons in June 2005. We also offer services including sending and receiving of faxes, copying, printing and laminating.
With the new addition completed in July 2002, the library offers the community more than ever. Adult non-fiction is housed in the historical section right off the Lake Street entrance, as well as one of two check-out desks. Now, there is a new entrance coming through a beautifully landscaped garden area. The open and well-lit foyer leads you to the adult fiction and the new circulation desk. Upstairs, the library offers two children's rooms. The primary room has books, games, television, coloring, and comfortable seats for young children and their parents. Between the two rooms is a dedicated young children's computer with software. The older children's room has a computerized card catalog, a computer for using CD-rom educational games, and lots of books geared towards 7-12 year old kids.
Friends of the Rangeley Public Library support the library in a number of ways. Volunteers from the group serve in the library at a variety of daily tasks, put on the four major yearly library sales, hold regular quarterly meetings with programs for Friends and the public and raise money for their needs through non-compulsory dues and contributions. |
