Piazza Rock

Location:  Route 4
Nine miles South of Rangeley
 
Services:  Hike to the enormous flat overhanging boulder which appears to be vbalanced in mid-air. Trail is located off Route 4 North towards Sandy River Plantation with the rock 1.8 miles on the Appalachian Trail. It is a good but not difficult hike. You can climb onto the rock which has large trees on it. Check out the bear caves and see a bird's eye view of Flagstaff Lake. This is a great spot for pictures while looking for moose, birds and other wildlife. The trail to Piazza Rock can be reached by Route 4. It is about 9 miles south of Rangeley, on the left, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the road. Parking lot is across the road from the trail entrance.
