Prime for Life Class

April 18, 2018

4:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County is excited to announce that we will be hosting Prime for Life classes for the community.

Prime for Life is a non-judgmental, evidence-based motivational prevention, intervention, and pretreatment program specifically designed for people who might be making high-risk choices. For example, individuals referred by a court, youth engaging in drinking or drug use or youth with families who have substance use disorders.  It is designed to change drinking and drug use behaviors by changing beliefs, attitudes, risk perceptions, motivations and the knowledge of how to reduce the risk of alcohol and drug related problems throughout lives.

Who can attend a Prime for Life class?

  • Universal audiences; those without any known increased risk factors who might only need the risk reduction information.
  • Selective audiences; those who might have signs of increased risk for developing problems such as youth with truancy issues or family members of individuals with substance use problems.
  • Indicated groups; those who are already making high-risk alcohol or drug choices and who might be exhibiting signs of problems.

What are the benefits of attending a Prime for Life class?

  • Learn how the combination of influences and personal choices determine outcomes and how to make low-risk choices by using a simple tool.
  • Absorb and process the information provided to be able to self-assess and identify their risk levels and current phase of alcohol and drug use.
  • Identify the things they value in their lives and make their own decisions about when and how to protect them.
  • Be given the chance to explore new beliefs and reflect on how those new beliefs may bring about positive changes.
  • Feel engaged and comfortable sharing their thoughts, feelings and self-reflections.
